Pregnancy and Dental Care
Dental care during pregnancy is safe, and skipping it carries real risks.
Pregnancy gingivitis
Hormonal changes make gums react strongly to plaque. Swollen, bleeding gums are common, and professional cleanings help significantly.
Is treatment safe
Routine cleanings and necessary treatment are safe throughout pregnancy, with the second trimester usually the most comfortable window for elective work.
X-rays
Dental X-rays use very low radiation and the abdomen is shielded. We still limit imaging to what is clinically necessary.
Morning sickness
Stomach acid erodes enamel. Rinse with water or a baking soda solution after vomiting and wait thirty minutes before brushing.
Why it matters
Untreated gum disease during pregnancy has been associated with preterm birth and low birth weight. Tell us you are expecting so we can adapt your care.
